What are Flexable Virtual MiniCamps?
Flexable MiniCamps began at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. As working parents ourselves, we suddenly found ourselves at home with our families 24/7 and wearing all the hats: working from home, childcare duties, domestic tasks, and aiding with schooling from home. And we’ll be the first to admit – it is really hard. Our goal has always been to help parents find Work +Life Fit, and we started Virtual MiniCamps in the same spirit.
MiniCamps are 30 minute, interactive and engaging video chat sessions led by a trusted and vetted Flexable Virtual Host. A schedule of engaging content keeps children ages 3 -10 connecting and growing at home while providing parents a brief reprieve for work or self-care. It’s like extra time in the day to have that conference call, workout session, clean the kitchen, or just hide in the bathroom with that secret chocolate stash!
What type of activities happen during Flexable Virtual MiniCamps?
Each week, our schedule of MiniCamps will be broken down into age ranges, such as 3-5 year olds and 6-10 year olds. Our goal is to provide a time for children to feel connected to other children and have fun.
For younger children, we offer a Circletime — think of it as having the little ones sit around our virtual carpet and connect. There might be a show + tell that day or perhaps a storytime. We find that this age range has A LOT to say, and we’re here to help listen!
For kids in the 6-10 year old range, we’re excited to offer a revolving, dynamic schedule of MiniCamps activities. These will range from movement, art, and easy snack making camps to camps that feature math games and beginner novel reading. And every week we’ll offer this age range access to a Campfire: a less structured camp where kids can connect with each other with the help of guided questions about their interests from the Virtual Host.

How do MiniCamps work?
After purchasing your MiniCamps, you’ll be able to use them to sign up for classes. Each Friday, Flexable releases a schedule with the following week’s camps listed. Sign up for your camp, and you will be sent an email with a zoom link and information about your MiniCamp such as times, the name of your Virtual Host, materials needed, and any other considerations.
Each Zoom meeting room will open 10 minutes prior to the start of the program. Before your scheduled camp, we recommend you and your child spend some time getting acquainted with Zoom and it’s features, such as using computer audio, muting and unmuting, testing your internet speed, etc.
If you have trouble accessing the meeting using the provided credentials, please contact the Zoom help line directly. Participants are responsible for their ability to access the Zoom meeting room. Refunds will not be given if an individual fails to connect within the designated time period.
When you enter your MiniCamp you will enter into a “waiting room.” This is to assure that only participants that are scheduled to join MiniCamps are able to enter. The Virtual Host will permit you to enter the MiniCamp.
Are MiniCamps safe?
Each Flexable Virtual Host has the same background checks and clearances as our on-site Caregivers. Often, our hosts are teacher aids or childcare workers already! By utilizing Zoom, we have included features such as randomly generated Meeting ID’s and locked waiting rooms.
What are the rules of conduct for MiniCamps?
Yes! We ask that all children that join us for MiniCamps refrain from using profanity, are kind to other children at the MiniCamp, and are a team player! If they are not, Flexable may remove them from the MiniCamp at the Virtual Host’s discretion. Read more in our term and conditions.
I don’t have the materials for the MiniCamp! Can my child still participate?
Yes! Many children truly just love joining MiniCamps for the socialization and interacting with children in a similar age range. If you child doesn’t have the materials needed but really want to learn about the activity, they are always welcome to join the MiniCamp.
I love Flexable’s Virtual MiniCamps! I plan to sign my child up for multiple sessions a week/month. Can I purchase a package at a lower rate?
Yes! We know parents are struggling at home with all the current expectations (work, childcare, homeschooling, and more!) and kids are struggling with missing their friends and developing a sense of rhythm. We’ve tried to make purchasing MiniCamps as cost effective as possible by offering packages.
There are so many free online activities right now — why do MiniCamps cost money?
In addition to supporting working parents, Flexable’s goal has always been to transform the childcare industry for its workers as well. Many of the Virtual Hosts are parents, small business owners, teaching aids, and other local workers that have had their employment affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to help them find ways to build income.
Does this mean Flexable won’t provide on-site childcare anymore?
No! We are so excited to offer on-site childcare again in the future. In response to the current COVID-19 pandemic and after careful consideration, Flexable has decided to suspend all on-site childcare until further notice out of safety for our caregivers, event organizers, and their employees’ families. But as soon as there is clear guidance and recommendations for how to safely resume offering on-site care, Flexable plans to begin on-site operations again.
